When Life Knocks the Wind Out of You: Job’s Story & Ours
Read Job 1–2, 38:1–11
“The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.” (Job 1:21)

Where This Hits Home
Life doesn’t always play fair. You can do all the "right" things and still end up flat on your back wondering what just happened. Chronic illness taught me that sometimes the pain doesn’t let up, no matter how disciplined, prayerful, or careful you are. I remember when my world first began shrinking. Something as simple as going to the grocery store or cooking a meal became overwhelming. Plans had to be canceled, friendships grew quiet, and I found myself asking, "Why me?" Those were my Job moments, when I could not make sense of how faith and suffering could live side by side.
The Word This Week
In Job 1–2, Job loses everything: wealth, health, and support. His suffering wasn’t because he failed, it happened even though he was faithful. In Job 38:1–11, God reminds Job of the vastness of creation. "Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation?" God is bigger than the storm and still holds the reins.

Why It Matters
I know what it is like to feel stuck in survival mode. Job reminds me that faith is not a formula, it is a lifeline. It does not guarantee ease. It anchors us when everything else shifts.
Let’s Talk About It
Where in your life right now do you feel like Job, hit with loss or confusion?
How does remembering God’s power over creation shift your perspective?
What might faith look like if it is not about fixing the pain but holding steady through it?
This Week’s Seed
This week, let’s not rush to tie everything up neatly. Sometimes the most faithful thing we can do is admit this is hard, and trust that God’s voice still speaks into the whirlwind.
